The Fear
/There is so much more to focus on than the Fear
Fear and other stress compromises the immune system. We have seen fear over the last few weeks creating panic. The body goes into the stress response and cortisol and adrenalin flood our system. Panic is sudden uncontrollable anxiety that makes people feel helpless and become unpredictable. We have seen people behave in a way they would never normally behave.
Slow, deep breathing and meditation are just two of the things that we can do to change the body’s response instantly, allowing the body to go into a ‘rest and repair’ response. How great is that?
While I type this on my laptop I am listening to Dodgy “Good enough”, Pharrell Williams “Happy” and Justin Timberlake “Can’t stop this feeling” to name three of the songs on my favourite play list to increase my positivity…try it, it works. Even though my hands on massage business is closed until further notice I can still smile at this lovely music. This is what we all need to do, take a break from any worries we might have and smile.
I am not trying to be flippant, I understand that we are living in a worrying time for the whole world but I choose to see the positive aspects too, they are plentiful. The kindness and generosity of people is everywhere. The front line staff who continue to do their jobs despite the risks to themselves are truly amazing and I am so grateful for them and what they do. Be grateful, gratitude helps with positive thoughts.
I choose to focus my attention when I can on the beauty that surrounds us, Spring is showing itself in abundance, the dog continues to jump around pleased to have more people to walk him. This astonishing planet we live on continues to ‘do its thing’. The birds are still singing and today the sun is shining. Give yourself a break and notice the good stuff. It will help your immune system and stop you doing unproductive and unhelpful actions. It allows your brain to become clearer and understand others and become kinder.
You cannot control everything but you can control how you feel in the moment, choose love not fear.
